The big railroad family festival
at the DB Museum Halle (Saale)

A highlight for the whole family

The DB Museum Halle (Saale) is once again celebrating its traditional family festival this year. Young railroad fans can look forward to a varied program with music, puppet theater, hands-on activities and lots of locomotives to marvel at and touch. From 10 am to 5 pm, the historic Engine Shed IV, which is home to the DB Museum Halle (Saale), will be transformed into a railroad adventure world for young and old.

Music, balloons and theater: a colorful program for the whole family

This year's summer festival has plenty of attractions for children and families. At 11 am and 2 pm, the historic steam storage locomotive in the roundhouse will become the backdrop for the fairy tale of “Sleeping Beauty”. Puppeteer Susa Ahrens from the “Märchenteppich” puppet theater tells the story from the perspective of the 13th fairy, captivating children from the age of four. Clown lady Filotta and her team model creative balloon figures, make giant soap bubbles float and transform children into animals and superheroes with their make-up skills. Mr. Olsen provides musical entertainment and there are sausages from the barbecue and ice cream from the “Eisburg”.

Rides on small trains and large locomotives

A special highlight of this year's family festival are the rides in the driver's cab of the locomotive 243 002-3. Museum guests can feel like real train drivers and see the site from a completely new perspective. In addition, a small ride-on train will make its rounds around the museum courtyard and the LGB model train layout in the roundhouse will be demonstrated by volunteers from the DB Museum.

Vehicles
will also be presented on the turntable throughout the day. The historic locomotives thus become the perfect photo motif and can be admired from all sides. Expert explanations round off the presentation and provide an exciting insight into the history of the German Reichsbahn of the GDR.
