Tunnels are among the most impressive structures in the railway world—and yet they usually remain hidden from view. The new special exhibition “Tunnels” at the DB Museum in Nuremberg sheds light on their history, technology, and significance.
Around 200 exhibits, models, and interactive stations illustrate why tunnels are indispensable for rail traffic, how modern tunnel boring machines work, and what challenges arise when building underground. The exhibition spans the history of railway tunnel construction from its beginnings to current major projects stretching from the Baltic Sea to the Alps.
There’s also plenty for families to discover: Children who can read can join the little characters Theo, Tina, and Toby Tunnler on a playful exploration tour.
The special exhibition has been on view at the DB Museum Nuremberg since July 3, 2026, and runs through mid-2028.
