Diesel locomotive 216 067-9

Proven passenger and freight service

1966

Diesel-hydraulic mainline locomotive

The Class 216 diesel-hydraulic mainline locomotives were introduced starting in 1966. They gradually replaced the steam locomotives of the 23, 38, 39, 50, 56, and 57 series, some of which were up to 50 years old. With an output of 1,900 hp and equipped with steam heating, they proved their worth in both passenger and freight service.

A total of 224 units were put into service by the DB; in 2004, the last locomotives of the series were taken out of service. After locomotive 216 067-9 was designated as a museum locomotive, it was restored to its 1960s appearance by volunteers at the DB Museum in Koblenz.
