Support program “Under pressure”

Toilets are inextricably linked to the concepts of hygiene and a secure water supply. Even today, two billion people live without safe access to water and over three and a half billion people live without safe sanitation.

On the occasion of the special exhibition “Under Pressure” and in connection with World Toilet Day, the DB Museum Nuremberg is organizing its own little day all about the toilet. Informative stands from Engineers Without Borders, World Hunger Aid, Holy Shit, P2GreeN and German Leprosy and Tuberculosis Relief Association invite visitors to find out more about regional and, above all, international projects relating to toilets, hygiene and water supply. The small exhibition by Nuremberg's municipal drainage system to mark the 150th anniversary of Nuremberg's sewerage system complements the international projects with an urban perspective on this topic.

With the two short workshops “Nutrient cycles” and “Global sanitation” by Goldeimer, museum visitors can immerse themselves in the topics in around 20 minutes. Aniko's soap workshops offer young visitors to the museum the opportunity to make their own soap.

Guided tours through the special exhibition “Under pressure”

How long have railroad toilets been around? And what was it like to travel without one? Entertaining guided tours through the special exhibition “Under Pressure” bring visitors closer to the history of the train toilet.

Workshops “Nutrient cycles”

How do we turn shit into gold? This workshop is all about the most natural cycle in the world - eating, pooping, composting, planting and starting all over again. We talk about the problems of our linear sanitation system and ask ourselves: How can we use human excrement to close nutrient cycles - and do something good for the environment in the process? Mila and Tanja from Goldeimer take you on a short excursion into the exciting world of circular toilets.

Workshop “Global sanitation”

Have you ever wondered what it means to have no toilet? In this workshop, the topic of sanitation is examined from a development policy perspective. Mila and Tanja from Goldeimer will take you on a short excursion into the exciting world of toilets. They will discuss the challenges of the sanitation crisis, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the importance of toilets. They will break down inhibitions and take a look beyond the rim of the bowl.

Soap workshops for children

The DB Museum's current special exhibition “Under Pressure” is all about the history of the train toilet. Soap is still particularly important in train toilets today, because when you go to the loo, you also wash your hands afterwards. But what did soap look like in the past? How are they made? And how does the smell actually get into the soap? Of course we want to find out and get together for a soap workshop: We offer you the opportunity to creatively make and decorate your own soap. Soap flakes, dried flowers and precious oils will be used to create your own handmade flower soaps to take home.
