Theme Evening: Plush instead of plastic - railway interiors from 1835 to 1940

Lecture with Dr. Thomas Kirstein, TU Berlin

Curator's tour with Benjamin Stieglmaier, DB Museum

Railroad cars are rolling houses whose interiors reflect the interior design of their time. The lecture begins with wagons that are more reminiscent of carts or carriages and ends around 1940 with the first passenger cars, whose interiors were created under the special primacy of functionality. The focus of this design-historical journey is on the wagons used in daily service. Avant-garde designs or exclusive salon cars are left out. The lecture thus also paints a picture of 100 years of everyday travel culture.

Start of curator's tour: 6 p.m., duration: 30 minutes

Start of lecture: 7 p.m. with subsequent discussion, duration: 90 minutes
