Theme Evening: From Social Coding to Corporate Colors - Railroad Colors in the Mirror of Their Time

Curator's tour with Dr. Ursula Bartelsheim, DB Museum

Lecture with Lars Quadejacob, German Museum of Technology Berlin

The first railroad vehicles, until the middle of the 19th century, were decidedly colorful. This was followed for a long time by the dark colors that were practical in steam operation. It was not until around 1930 that the idea arose that the appearance of a vehicle also had a traffic-promoting influence. Striking color schemes followed, especially for the popular streamlined vehicles. Lars Quadejacob, longtime editor-in-chief of the journal designreport and today curator of rail transportation at the German Museum of Technology, shows how railroad colors changed to reflect their respective times.

Start of curator's tour: 6 p.m., duration: 30 minutes

Start of lecture: 7 p.m. followed by discussion, duration: 90 minutes
